  The last workshop hosted by the City of Cape Town for the week was held at Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT) on Friday, 14 February 2014, for tourism students. Students from the Cape Town and Wellington campus attended the two hour buzz session. VINEYARD HOTEL SETS THE ‘GREEN BAR’ HIGH WITH ITS INSTALLATION OF 80 NEW SOLAR PANELS

The Vineyard Hotel continues to lead the charge as a pioneer in sustainable tourism with the recent installation of 80 new 250 watt solar panels on the hotel’s pool deck and fitness centre roofs. Since the installation in mid-January, the hotel has generated some 2,600kWh of the 40,000 kilowatt hours this installation is expected to deliver over the next 12 months. The panel installation, part of a pilot project commissioned by the hotel and supplied by solar energy company, M-solar, is a key addition to the hotel’s award winning ‘Living Green’, Renewable Energy, Sustainability and Waste Management projects. Today marks the first day of Responsible Tourism Week, a global initiative that focuses on the importance of managing tourism businesses in a way that benefits communities and considers environmental integrity.
