Lilizela Universal Accessibility Awards


What is the award for?

The Lilizela Universal Accessibility Awards recognizes facilities and services at accommodation establishments, as well as meetings, exhibitions and special events venues that are accessible for people with disabilities. These awards are an initiative of the Tourism Grading Council of South Africa, who in 2010 incorporated Universal Accessibility (UA) grading criteria for the first time in its other quality grading criteria.

African Responsible Tourism Awards


What is the award for?

With its unique natural and cultural landscapes, Africa offers many opportunities for responsible tourism. Tourism organisations are already growing tourism that preserves, respects and benefits African destinations and African people. The African Responsible Tourism Awards aims to celebrate the efforts made by individuals, organisations and destinations in Africa. The  awards also aim to inspire change in the African tourism industry.

The African Responsible Tourism Awards was launched in 2015 and winners are automatically entered into the World Responsible Tourism Awards.

What is the award for?

To reward the best exhibition industry initiatives connected to operations issues as they are related to the annual competition them. The theme for 2015 is “Innovative cost-saving in the value chain”

What is the award for?

Lilizela Imvelo Awards


These awards have been suspended until a later date. Originally, the awards were in line with the National Minimum Standard for Responsible Tourism, the responsible tourism guidelines for the South African hospitality industry and the UN World Tourism Organisation’s code of ethics. Imvelo was supported by the Heritage Environmental Rating Programme.

What is the award for?

The contest will only accept entries for projects and measures whose planning and implementation involves the different interests and needs of the local population through participation on a broad scale (e.g. through information, opinion poll, discussion, in working out ideas and in decision-making).

What is the award for?

Since 1987 the German Travel Association (DRV) has annually awarded its international EcoTrophea prize  for exemplary projects in sustainable tourism. DRV presents awards to extraordinary initiatives in the field of tourism which take ecological and social interests into due account and contribute towards sustainable travel offerings reaching as many guests as possible.
