The following communication was issued by Table Mountain Aerial Cableway in support of Earth Hour. Dear friends of Table Mountain Aerial Cableway,
We would like to invite you to take part in an exciting campaign that allows you to showcase your environmental commitments ahead of the symbolic switch-off for Earth Hour at 8.30pm this Saturday, 29 March, and will take just a few minutes of your time.
We at the Table Mountain Aerial Cableway are passionate about caring for the environment and ensuring we follow best practices in terms of sustainability. This is why we’re joining the World Wide Fund for Nature South Africa (WWF-SA) in calling on individuals, businesses and organisations to make a public commitment to the environment by making a promise to the Earth.
The promise platform, at www.earthhour.org.za, is a cool website that turns from an ugly burnt-out Earth to a healthy green one once you have made your promise. The idea is to go “beyond the hour” and encourage everybody to change their behaviour in some way that will benefit the Earth for the better.
We know that many of you are already actively engaged in improving your environmental footprint, and this is an excellent opportunity to publicise your commitment. If you have not done so already, we would encourage you to participate in this campaign.
And once you’ve made your promise, please spread the word and get some of your friends to do the same!
Here’s our promise as an example: “We ferry about 850 000 people a year to the top of Table Mountain, a New7Wonder of Nature, in a UNESCO World Heritage Site. As leaders in responsible tourism, water, waste and energy management is integral to our operations. We promise to continually use state-of-the-art techniques and methods to help minimise our carbon footprint.”
