The upcoming Responsible Tourism in Cities conference on 6 May is taking place in Durban, South Africa, but is fully accessible to participants from anywhere around the world via the internet. Anyone may register for free to be a virtual delegate.
The full proceedings from 08h30 – 15h30 will be webcast in streaming video and audio from the venue. Presentations will be available on the night of 5 May from the conference section of the Resources page and from the Planeta wiki. Questions can be asked by virtual delegates during the conference by using Twitter with the conference hashtag, #rtcities, or from the Responsible Cape Town Facebook page. South Africa is in the timezone UTC+2.
For those unable to commit to a full day of virtual participation, the programme has been finalised (available here) so you can join when most appropriate for your interests and availability. If you have questions for a speaker or a session but you cannot attend, registered virtual delegates may submit them via Twitter or Facebook in advance and then check the conference records afterward for the reply and any resulting discussion.
All delegates in the physical conference venue in Durban on the day will have good quality, free wifi available to them, allowing for a continuous backchannel conversation with one another and virtual delegates throughout the conference.
Any additional suggestions for virtual delegate participation are most welcome. Please post your suggestion in the comments below.
