SEED issued the following communication on the 9 October 2014.
Dear Friends and Family of the SEED Web,
We are extremely excitement to announce that we have JUST launched our crowdfunding campaign Mushrooms for Mitchells Plain through the Cape Town based online Crowdfunding Café, Thundafund.
The launch is part of our ongoing efforts to best manifest SEED’s vision in becoming a self-reliant organisation, but we need your help in realising this… NOW!
The campaign is in support of SEED’s first community enterprise, the Gourmet Mushroom Enterprise, and aims to raise R 53,000 for the creation and development of a SEED backyard mushroom growing incubation space in which we test models, exhibit solutions and train locals in how to grow nutritious mushrooms in their own homes.
The context of this initiative is extremely relevant as Mushrooms for Mitchells Plain addresses the public health crisis in the Cape Flats area by growing food that is medicine, while boosting local food resilience and community social cohesion.
Supporting us by buying rewards means we get financially closer to reaching our first milestone of building the demonstration side and you get to buy rewards like a punnet of gourmet mushrooms with a recipe or a SEED hoodie. Check out the Buy Rewards page to see what we are offering in exchange for your support.
When launching a Thundafund campaign, the first push is the most important. We need to gain momentum within this first week so we can reach our first milestone of R10,000 “The Tipping Point” within 30 days otherwise the campaign will be shut down before it even takes flight.
Even more exciting, is that when we reach our first milestone of R10,000, the City of Cape Town will match this due to the fact we are a World Design Capital Project.
So please take a moment to visit our Mushrooms for Mitchells Plain campaign page here to find out more, check out our progress and find out what fantastic rewards we have in store for you in exchange for your support.
SEED’s vision is to incubate community abundance & resilience through community enterprises that enhance local food security, create local jobs and strengthen community interdependence. For more info on what we do and our vision for the future, please visit our website: www.seed.org.za .
