Travel, Enjoy, Respect Cape Town

As part of the International Year for Sustainable Tourism for Development, UNWTO is running a campaign called #travelenjoyrespect to encourage responsible travel. There’s an understanding that since each journey a tourist take changes them and the world around them, they are as responsible for the places they visit as the people who live there.

So visitors to Cape Town can be protectors and agents of positive change, but we have to guide them. We held a Twitter chat on World Tourism Day (27 September) to find out how Cape Town should encourage its visitors to travel responsibly. The aim of the Twitterchat was to:

  • Find ways that visitors to Cape Town can enjoy their stay without cost to the City, its environment and its people
  • Think of ways we can encourage visitors to behave the right way
  • Think of ways we can help tourists behave the right way
  • Join the global #travelenjoyrespect conversation encouraging tourists to travel responsibly

We asked four questions, got an overwhelming response, and have shared it with you here.

What should we encourage visitors to do to #travelenjoyrespectCPT?

What should we encourage visitors not to do if they’re to #travelenjoyrespectCPT?

What can businesses do to make it easy for tourists to #travelenjoyrespectCPT?
